Behind the Brand: Emi Jewellery
This week on the blog, to celebrate the addition of the latest jewellery from Emi launching on our website, we were lucky enough to interview photographer Kera Robson. She’s been involved in the Emi brand for the last 5 years, helping to bring the brand’s creative vision to life with her beautifully innovative and unique style. Read on to find out more…
When working on a project with Emi, what kind of things do you get involved with?
When working with Emi I am sent a brief of the direction of the collection, this contains how I will be required to photograph these items focusing a lot on the seasonal style of the collection. I then go away and arrange the date for the photoshoot, after the date is set I then arrange a model that would suit the brief and also arrange a suitable makeup artist. I am also required to photograph the cut outs for some of the pieces.

What do you love the most about your job?
My favourite part is the creativity, getting to create something unique and beautiful that my clients are pleased with every day gives me great pleasure.

What makes Emi different from any other jewellery brand in the market place right now?
I love the intricate details and the beautiful assortment of colours in the jewellery and pieces that I am working with, this is something that really stands out to me, they are some amazing statement pieces that I just haven’t seen anywhere else. I also believe the ethical side of the brand is something that is of great importance, knowing that the jewellery that I am photographing is made with the people in mind is something I care about deeply.
Describe a typical day working with Emi
On the day of the shoot I have the studio set up and ready for their arrival. I set up a space for the makeup artist on set so she can work in the perfect light to make sure the makeup will look good on camera. I give the makeup artist direction on how we wish the makeup to be, this is usually a nice natural dewey look, as these individual jewellery pieces are so vibrant it just compliments it so well. After the shoot I send all of the files for selection and once the images are selected it is onto editing, this is the final touches before the images are sent back for use.

What’s your favourite piece of Emi jewellery from the new collection?
I adore the Hand Set Tribal Collar Necklace, I love the detail in the beading on this piece and all of that beautiful colour.
Describe the Emi brand in 3 words
Beautiful, Vibrant & Ethical
When you’re not working with Emi, what other projects do you get involved with?
I have a great love for creating, when I am not photographing I am building something or drawing. So when I get the chance to create something using a team of people who have an interest in working with me I jump at it. I have lots of ideas in my head and having an addiction to using photoshop lends itself well to this. After some of the photoshoots for Emi, myself the model and makeup artist collaborate on some creative works and end up with some really surreal and interesting images, these images have been featured by magazines and also have been used by the greats such as Canon in their social media campaigns.
