Women’s Winter Coats – Wrapping up in Style
The surprise indian summer of last month might have lulled you into a false sense of security, but it’s time to face facts – winter is well and truly here. It’s not all bad news though, the cold, dark days might be a little bit depressing, but they give you the perfect excuse to splash out on a luxurious winter coat to get you through the party season. Remember, you can change your outfits every day, but your winter coat is something you’ll most likely be wearing every day, so you want to be sure that you’re wearing something that’s comfortable, flattering and versatile. Here’s our pick from the Freemans catalogue.
Although a thickly padded winter warmer is always appealing, beware of coats that will make you look bulky and shapeless. Wearing a lighter coat as part of a layered outfit will provide just as much insulation and look much better. This Laura Scott Checked Duffel Coat is a fabulous fitted piece with a belt in the middle that can accentuate your waist. The check detail is totally on-trend too.
There is often a similar temptation to buy the longest coat you can find for maximum coverage, but not every woman will suit a full-length piece. If you’re on the short side, avoid any winter coats that fall significantly below the knee, as this is likely to leave you looking like a child who’s been raiding her mother’s wardrobe. Instead, consider an uber-glam faux fur jacket? Chunky tights or knee-boots will give your legs the protection they need. Why not look for some boots with matchinb faux-fair detail?
If you do want to get away with a longer piece, make sure there’s a clear contrast between the top and bottom halves of your winter coat to create definition. We’re loving this fabulously retro 60s-style number from Joe Browns. The colour is bold and eye-catching, and the skirt-style bottom is seriously trendy. Perfect for channelling your inner Twiggy!
