How to wear – Winter Wedges
If you’re the kind of woman who feels lost without a good pair of heels, the autumn-winter season can be a tricky time. Heels aren’t just a stylish footwear option; they can boost your confidence significantly by providing a couple of inches of extra height, and helping to give definition to your legs. By comparison, flats can often leave us feeling a little, well, flat!
This is where wedges can really be a lifesaver. While negotiating wet pavements and frosty roads in 5inch stilettos is definitely not advisable, a good wedge shoe combines the sturdiness of a flat shoe with the aesthetic benefits of a heel. They’re surprisingly versatile too – the right kind of wedge can work for just about any kind of outfit.
If you’re still clinging to bare legs, even in a mid-long length dress, a boot or brogue style shoe will often look a little bit too chunky and throw off the balance of your outfit. A good sandal wedge will create a better match. These come in a huge variety of designs, from striking leather to summer floral. For this season, you’re probably best sticking to neutral black, brown or white shades, as more ornate patterns tend to be better suited to a summer dress.
For more casual outfits featuring women’s trousers or chunky tights, ankle boots are always a great add-on. A subtle wedge can give you that little extra boost without stealing attention away from the rest of your outfit. This is particularly important if you want to look smart and professional; as a more extravagant heel can run the risk of making you look over-dressed, especially when it’s out of season.
If you really want to indulge in some winter luxury, a fur-lined wedge ankle boot offers warmth, comfort and an easy opportunity for some creative accessorising! Match the lining to a scarf, a knitted hat or even a jumper. Think wintery eastern-European chic, which is currently experiencing a bit of a revival. It’s a trend you’ll be thankful for when the cold weather really kicks in!
