Style Guide: Women’s Tops & Trousers
Never let it be said that we operate a dictatorial approach to fashion here at Freemans. Although we’ve talked extensively about the importance of a beautiful evening dress for party season, there are certainly alternatives if you’re not a sequin kind of girl. A stylish women’s top and trouser combo can be equally glamorous if worn correctly. Here’s our guide to looking stylish rather than slovenly this Christmas.
White shirts are a big trend this winter, communicating effortless chic and a subtly Parisian look. However, it’s a tricky one to get right – if your shirt is oversized or baggy it can very easily look like maternity wear. To avoid being the subject of office gossip into the New Year, make sure your white Women’s top gives you a figure. This Sparkle Tie Blouse in elegant ivory is tres glamorous. Pair it with black trousers for a classic Diane Keaton-esque tomboy look, or a floor-length skirt to add a touch of femininity.
Speaking of trousers, make sure you create a bit of contrast between your top and bottom half to avoid a fashion faux-pas. All black can look a little severe and funereal, while all white can work really well, but can also leave you looking like you’re stuck in 80s fashion hell. If you do want to keep things matched, add a differently coloured belt or some jewellery to give some variety to the look.
One major benefit of wearing a top instead of a dress is that it’s much easier to get away with long sleeves without looking overdone. Check out this Singh Madan Top; beautiful full length sleeves that look perfect with smart trousers.
Last but not least, don’t forget that the real beauty of a trouser-top combo is the ability to mix and match. Instead of splashing out on one dress, you could create an affordable party wardrobe that can be worn again and again. Guilt-free fashion – what could be better than that?
